ＪＡＰＡＮＥＳＥ OLD SHRINE OPEN TO THE SOUTH

日本の神社夏の奉納子供相撲大会およびカラオケ大会 １９９２年

私たちの神社の世話役が毎年小学生奉納相撲とカラオケ大会を開いています。今年は７月１９日日曜日に開かれました。夕方が近付くと神主がお払いをし、けが人のないよう無事を祈願します。


At the shrine festival we have japanese wrestling, or sumo, and karaoke every year. This year it was held on sunday, july 19.
In the evening shrine priest prayed for good luck of sumo wrestler.

小学校２年生（８才）同士の相撲に私の娘が出場しました。１回目は相手を投げ飛ばして、勝ちました。そのほか小学校６年（１２才）同士の試合まで順に次々と開かれました。相撲場の回りに白い旗と赤い旗を持った人が座って居ますが、この人たちは審伴に異議があるとき赤旗を上げます。


My daughter, who is eight years old, took part in the second- grader matches. She won on the first round with her overhand throw. The matches went on up to the sixth graders.
Four judges sitting around the sumo ring held up red flag when the main juge made a mistake.

In the evening the shrine priest prayed for good luck for the sumo wrestlers.

わが家から歩いて約５分の所に、神社があります。小高い丘の上に南を向いて祭られている神社本殿へは石段を登って行きます。　日本では各地に神社が相当数あります。それらは各地域地域で人々の生活と密接に結び付いています。　これらの神社は日本の神話に由来し、すべて日本神話に出て来る神神が祭られています。

There is an old shrine facing south on a small hill five minutes from my home.
In Japan there are many, many shrines all over the country.

They are connected with the life of the people. They are gods from the ancient Japanese myths. 		お菓子を売る店が１件だけ来て子供達の人気をよんでいました。


Only one candy vendor was a hit,attracting the children. 		　石段の両わきには、絵馬という地域の人々が描いたちょうちんが中にローソクに火がつけられて飾られます。　

Along the stone stairs leading up to the shrine, we can see picture lanterns, or ema, which were painted by the local people.

家内の実家は農家です。家の前に自分の田が広がっています。ここで日本人の主食のお米やぶどうなどたくさんの種類の農作物を作っています。

My wife was born a farmer.
In front of my house you can see rice paddies, where we grow rice,of course,but also grapes and lots of agricultural products.		 ゆかたを着たところです。祭りに飾る絵馬を手に持っています。
